I remember at the point when we had turned to run away from the object, I saw several people running toward the object. These people looked like men, dressed in long dark coats and wearing trilby hats holding what looked like satchels. There was also a strange mist that surrounded them and when they got close to the object, they simply disappeared.244

Another abduction case from the 1970s, with numerous parallels to others, is that of Lynda Jones, a 36-year-old homemaker from Didsbury, Manchester, in the UK. One evening during the summer, Jones was at home chatting with an old friend who had stopped over while her husband, Trevor, was on shift at a local factory from 2 to 10 p.m. Remembering her friend had ridden a bike with no headlamp, Jones suggested he begin to make his way home before it got dark, and she offered to show him a shortcut that would take them through some nearby fields.

Jones and her two children, aged 5 and 15, set out with her friend and arrived at the River Mersey around 7:30 p.m. After bidding farewell, Jones and her children began the return trip home. Because her husband would not be back for another two and a half hours, they took their time and occasionally stopped to admire wildflowers along the way, as Jones was rather passionate about flowers.

While admiring some wildflowers along the path, Lynda Jones’s oldest child suddenly shouted out “Mum, the moon is coming toward us.”245 As she turned to see what all the commotion was about, Jones saw a strange object moving swiftly across the sky and over the Didsbury golf course on the other side of the river. Jones described it as looking like a large Frisbee, which was spinning along its axis while tilted at a slight angle.246

The strange object slowly and silently passed overhead, then dropped down in front of Lynda and her children on the other side of a flood embankment. Jones felt an overwhelming urge to investigate. At first, she walked toward the object, but as her excitement mounted, she began running up the flood embankment to get a better look. There she could see the large craft about 25 meters in front of her.

Now able to see it better, Jones described the object as having an oblong shape like a rugby ball. It was approximately 18 meters across, glowed a bright orange color, and had a detached bright white light on top. Jones also recalls that the object was spinning, and peculiarly, it disappeared and reappeared in front of them, as if it were fading in and out of existence.

She also remembered being astonished by an absolute silence that fell over the entire area. This complete calm that suddenly washed over Jones and her children in the presence of the UFO was remarkable and memorable. It was made more manifest by the fact that
